Roundup: Market heating up for O’s sluggers?

With just about two weeks left before the Trade Deadline, the Hot Stove is definitely heating up. Here’s a look at buzz and rumors around the league on Saturday:

— It hasn’t been a secret that teams around the Majors are interested in Orioles’ All-Star Ty Wigginton and Miguel Tejada.’s Brittany Ghiroli suggested on Friday night that the Phillies and Rangers are among the teams making a play for one of the sluggers.  But then Saturday afternoon, the Sun updated the situation saying that for now, talks between the Phillies and Orioles are dead. Wigginton could be a better fit for the Yankees or Rangers, who are both reportedly looking for right-handed hitting help.

— Indians closer Kerry Wood, who went on the disabled list with a blister on Saturday, is seemingly a valuable trade chip for the Tribe. As ESPN’s Buster Olney points out on Twitter, Wood’s real waiver deadline is Aug. 31.  Wood’s nearly $4 million salary should allow him to clear waivers up until that point. That fact could allow teams to see how quickly he can recover from the blister issues.

— The White Sox have been slashing through opponents of late, but that might not stop GM Ken Williams from making a move to help the club at the deadline. Normally Williams isn’t shy about asking his veteran players for input, but he hasn’t done that with Paul Konerko, who told the Sun Times that he thinks the White Sox are in fine shape.
