Would Red Sox part with Bard?

The Red Sox, without question, are one of the many teams who have been in touch with the Diamondbacks about Justin Upton, the talented outfielder who is still just 23 years old.

The question is this: Would the Red Sox be willing to include Daniel Bard in a package for Upton? Bard is one of the most dominant setup men in the game and should be ready to step in as the closer should Jonathan Papelbon leave as a free agent following the 2011 season.

According to several reports, the D-Backs would be looking for the Red Sox to include not only Bard, but perhaps Jacoby Ellsbury and a signficangt prospect. While it wouldn’t be stunning to see Ellsbury and a prospect get moved, the additional price of Bard could wind up being too high. It all depends on what Arizona’s final asking price ends up being.

Bard is too valuable.
Elsbury is also valuable, but his bridge to Fenway may be burned.
How about Elsbury, Dice-K & Felix Doubront and/or Cameron FOR Upton. May need to pick up some of the salaries.

So far Upton has not produced up to his potential. Bard has and his big upside buddy from college, Miller just got on the team. No way Bard.I’d consider Pap, Ellsbury and Reddick for Upton and a minor league pitcher.

I think theo considers Bard as an untouchable. Bards the closer of the future paps got 1 year left and hes probably gonna walk. I’d move ellsbury and casey Kelly for Upton, there is no room for Kelly in the rotation anyways

The Red Sox are not going to trades for Upton…. They will only get him if they cant get either Werth or Crawford.. Once the trade for Adrian Gonzalez is done they will probably go after Werth pretty hard to give them another Right handed power bat.. I dont think its possible for them to get Gonzalez Werth and Crawford though…That would be a great offseason for Boston if they decide to throw money around like the Yankees lol…They will settle w Gonzalez and Werth though and possibly resign Beltre to play 3rd. then slide Youkilis to LF…Go Youk Drew and Werth in their outfield and trade ellsbury to get some prospects back from the Gonzalez deal! I love spending other peoples money LOL!

They have no reason to trade Bard as he is just a phenomenal pitcher. If they should trade anyone right now it should be Papelbon because I am sure the Sox won’t be signing him next season. redsoxnationfans.com

What a month can do!! Gonzalez and Crawford and big dollars means Theo is going all out this year. His core of players in their prime is incredible. When Gonzo signs you will have 1B, 2B (Pedroia), SS (Lowrie/Inglesis), 3B (Youk), LF (Crawford), CF (Ellsbury), RF (Drew/Kalish), C (Salty/Ramirez), and SP (Beckett, Buchholz, Lackey and Lester) ALL LOCKED UP FOR AT LEAST 3 MORE YEARS! Who needs a young talent that is not a sure thing? Thank your lucky stars Bard will be with the Sox in2011 and beyond
