Bard accepts Mariners Minor League offer
The Mariners apparently have re-signed veteran catcher Josh Bard to a Minor League contract that includes an invitation to Spring Training.
The switch-hitting Bard, who batted .214 with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs in 39 games with the Mariners in 2010, confirmed the deal and will battle Adam Moore this spring for the backup catching job behind recently-signed Miguel Olivo.
Meanwhile, the club denied a report that it has avoided salary arbitration with infielder Brandon Ryan, acquired from the Cardinals in December, with a two-year, $2.75 million contract,
The deal, reported by The Associated Press, said Ryan, 29, would make $1 million in 2011 and $1.75 million in ’12.
