Mr. Marlin critical of Hanley

MIAMI — Marlins’ three-time All-Star Hanley Ramirez is not on the trading block, but the 27-year-old has frustrated a prominent member of the organization.

Jeff Conine, a team special assistant, said he would be open to dealing Ramirez.

During a radio interview on “The Dan LeBatard Show on 790 The Ticket,” Conine said he was frustrated “On a nightly basis” with how Ramirez plays the game.

“I think that obviously Hanley is a phenomenal talent,” Conine said. “But as a guy that … I’m probably jealous too because I didn’t have that kind of talent, but I had to work extremely hard on a nightly basis to put my talent on the field. I think that there are some nights when he doesn’t work as hard as he should.”

Asked if he would trade Ramirez, Conine said: “If it were up to me, probably.”

Conine, known as Mr. Marlin, doesn’t dispute Ramirez’s overall talent.

“Maybe that’s part of the problem, but you know he is no doubt one of the top talents in baseball, and you hope at some point he would get it and become a leader in the clubhouse like he can be on the field,” Conine said.

It’s just Hanley being Hanley. Sounds familiar.

I don’t know what the Marlins are thinking, they are wasting time and opportunities to sell high some of these players get new younger and better talent and start buiding for the near future say 2013. Start with Hanley move long swing average catcher J Buck, get Nunez out for a lefty prospect pitcher, find a prospect catcher with the Yanks for Choate they have plenty, and move Nolasco keep Sanchez way better Pitcher. I mean look for the pieces you really need and with Hanley ,Nolasco Choate and Nunes you can bring in a solid package of young talent. I know baseball and these actual group is not going to cut it. Bring a lefty young pitcher, get one of those young talented cacher fron the Yankees, bring a center field and more pieces either from Texas, Red Sox or whomever for Hanley, it is time for him to go make it sooner that later, avoid the unavoidable, it is time .

not till the marlins rich ass owner wants to finally have a winner not just one for a year and have a fire sale after the fact

freddi in altanta knows how to handle hanley ramirez and would be the best landiong spot. What a difference that would make for that team.

Jeff Conine is right and I would add that Ramirez is a cancer for the Marlins. Too big a “hot dog” to keep. Seems to be happy now with McKeon at the helm but what will happen next year with a permanent field manager? You have to baby the guy; not good for a team and a pain in somewhere for the manager.
