Angels reach a deal for Albert Pujols

The Angels have signed Albert Pujols, arguably the greatest player of this era, sources told MLB.com on Thursday morning.

The deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com and Jon Heyman of MLB Network, is for 10 years and could be worth at least $250 million. It also includes a reported no-trade clause.

The previous night, the Angels had surprisingly popped up in rumors linking them to Pujols for the second time in 24 hours, with a baseball source confirming to MLB.com that their intentions were indeed serious.

ITS A SAD DAY FOR THE CARDINALS WHEN THEY CAN NOT KEP THE BEST PLAYER THE CARDINAL WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO GAVE HIM A CHANCE AND HAS FOR AS THE CARDINALS GO THERE GOING TO LOSE A LOT OF FANS AND TICKET SALES DO TO NOT SIGNING HIM BACK

It is a great day for the Cardinals when they don’t do something really stupid by signing a player on the downhill side of his career for ten years at $25 million per. Now they can go about filling some holes. Good luck to the Angels in eating that contract for the next 10 years.

Very well said Mendoza, Cardinals have a lot of talent up and coming from the first base position. We sure didn’t need to tie up $250 mil over ten years for a hitter in the national league

Way to much money for a player that is aging where it shows, in his numbers. They have been on a very steady decline for the past few years. Lets get Prince in here!

I wish Albert well and have enjoyed watching him the last 10 years. But Cards will be better off this way 5-10 years down the road. Crazy to commit that much money to a player at the age he’ll be then. Yes, Cards may have got a “deal” with his previous contract but unlike Musial did, players don’t give the money back if they disappoint and don’t earn it. How much as A-Rod given back? I’m happy Cards are not strapped with this contract. I’ll continue to be as much of a fan as I have been the past 55 years without Albert.

It is a sad day but I do not blame the Cardinal organization. It will cost him part of the difference in signing with the Angels by moving all of his things out there. This is pure greed and after what the Cardinal organization has done for him by giving him the chance and how the BEST FANS in baseball have supported him I hope he don’t hit .200. He could have went down as the best Cardinal to play the game if not the best overall. See ya good luck with them Angel fans and I would not supprt anything with his name on it from here on out. Prince is just as good and younger so let go after him and show him what it is to be a Cardinal. American League is not even real Baseball!

St. Louis has just lost one of, if not the biggest name in baseball history. Having a brand new skipper in the dugout had a huge impact on his decision. Offering players this much money to play a simple game is just a joke. What ever happened to playing for the pure love of the game. I blame this current trend on agents. Their sole purpose is to drive up the costs of players which is not how things should be.

What a wonderful day. Thank you Angels!

I think Pujols hurt his legacy and his image by seemingly being primarily focused on cash. I mean, if you can’t live on $400,000 per week …

I haven’t talked to Mr. Pujols, but I am disappointed that he will not return to play for the Cardinals. I just hope others will not judge his witness as a Christian by this decision.

Cards fan since the early 50’s I think the Cards did the correct move and let AP walk, we have the $$$ to fill the holes so to AP I’ll say Good Bye

It just sickens me to see all this money in baseball being thrown around like nothing, with these owners and players smuggly laughing knowing that fans will continue to pay for it. Not me. I’m done. Nobody is worth the kind of money Pujols and others are getting to play a kids game. Listening to Pujols and Moreno at their press conference was unbelievable. You couldn’t comprehend anything as they rambled and really didn’t answer questions. Hey fans, if you wear their jerseys, hats, etc., you should be getting paid for advertising the team. Things are just out of control (ticket, parking, concession prices, satellite and cable charges). Give me a break.
