Dodgers Look at Schierholtz
One non-tendered player the Dodgers have some interest in is outfielder Nate Schierholtz, cut loose last week by the Phillies, who acquired him from the Giants in the Hunter Pence trade. As a left-handed hitter, Schierholtz wouldn’t seem a fit with both corners already taken by lefties Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford. And he doesn’t fit the need for a backup to Matt Kemp with true center-field skills. But with Crawford coming off elbow surgery, Schierholtz would be insurance, as well as a bench upgrade. He hit .287 with an .826 OPS against right-handed pitching last year, but was eligible for a raise through arbitration from his 2012 base salary of $1.3 million. — Ken Gurnick
