Nationals acquire Blevins from A’s

The Nationals filled their need for a left-handed relief pitcher on Wednesday, acquiring Jerry Blevins from the A’s for Minor League outfielder Billy Butler.

Blevins made 67 appearances for the A’s last season, going 5-0 with a 3.15 ERA. The 30-year-old struck out 52 and walked 17 over 60 innings and actually was tougher on right-handed batters, who hit .190 against him, with a .581 OPS.  However, Blevins has been effective against lefties over his career, holding them to a .224 average and .636 OPS.

Burns was the Nationals’ Minor League Player of the Year in 2013, when he split time between Class A Advanced Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg, hitting .315/.425/.383 with no home runs but 74 stolen bases.
