Tigers close to re-signing V. Martinez

The Tigers are close to re-signing designated hitter Victor Martinez to a four-year deal, according to a tweet by FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Martinez is coming off season in which he hit a career-best 32 home runs and led the American League with a .409 on-base percentage. He also finished second in the AL with a .335 batting average and drove in 103 runs, while scoring 87 runs of his own.

Though the four-year commitment is a bit of a risk given the fact that Martinez turns 36 in December and is used primarily as a designated hitter, he proved this past season that he is still capable of being one of the game’s premier hitters.

HE IS TOO OLD TO PLAY THE GAME. ALSO, HE LEFT THE TRIBE FOR MORE MONEY. HE WILL LEAVE THE TIGERS IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT. TO HELL WITH YOU, VICTOR
