Cubs may be one of six teams interested in Gomes
Though the exact teams aren’t clear at this point, outfielder Jonny Gomes has drawn interest from at least six clubs, according to a tweet by Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.
Cotillo adds that the Cubs are “believed to be among” that list of interested teams, though no deal is imminent.
Even if the Cubs are one of the teams checking in on Gomes, it doesn’t necessarily indicate they will pursue the 33-year-old outfielder, considering the Cubs seem intent on leaving no stone unturned this offseason.
Despite a disappointing 2014 season in which he posted a .234/.327/.330 slash line over 112 combined games between the Red Sox and A’s. That said, Gomes still posted a respectable .276/.373/.371 line in 204 plate appearances against lefties as opposed to a dismal .165/.248/.262 line in 117 plate appearances versus right-handers.
Given his ability to hit lefties and the occasional pop in his bat, Gomes could garner a multi-year deal this offseason, though the market is clearly still developing.
