Astros, Braves reportedly discuss Gattis trade
The Astros and Braves have had talks about a trade involving Atlanta catcher Evan Gattis, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.
Rosenthal wrote the Astros have been targeting the Braves catcher since the summer, but they would have had to take center fielder B.J. Upton and the remaining $46.35 million on his contract as well. The Braves were targeting Dexter Fowler, who’s from Atlanta, to replace Upton in center field.
Gattis, 28, is one year away from arbitration and four years away from free agency. The Astros have four catchers on their 40-man roster: Jason Castro, Hank Conger, Max Stassi and Corporan, who’s eligible for arbitration for the first time.
