Rangers in the mix for Hunter

The Rangers are reportedly “making a push” to sign veteran free agent outfielder Torii Hunter, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Though it’s unclear at this point whether or not the Rangers have officially extended an offer to Hunter, the 39-year-old outfiedler is said to already be considering offers from the Mariners, Twins and Royals. The Orioles could also enter the mix now that Nelson Cruz is on his way to Seattle and the team’s talks with Nick Markakis have reportedly stalled.

Hunter would reportedly prefer to choose a team by next week’s Winter Meetings, according to LaVelle E. Neal of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Hunter, who has never appeared in a World Series over his 18-year career, will have to decide between playing for a known contender, a reunion with the Twins or signing with the Rangers with the hope they can bounce back in 2015.

Only way Hunter signs with the Rangers is with the understanding that he will graduate into a (player) Manager position within the year. The Rangers are in more disarray than any other team in baseball. They’ve traded or lost to free agency the “guts” of the winning team enjoyed for so many years. Kinsler for Fielder was the last straw. This team has a distinct Odor about it.
