Twins doing their due diligence in free agency
The Twins are interested in or have reached out to a number of free agent starting pitchers, including Edinson Volquez, Francisco Liriano and Justin Masterson, among others, according to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN.
Wolfson reports that the Twins have had talks with Liriano’s agent, Greg Genske, though it’s unclear at this point just how serious those talks have been. Signing Liriano would also require the Twins to surrender a draft pick, unlike signing the 31-year-old Volquez, who was not extended a qualifying offer.
The report also indicates that the Twins are expected to meet with Masterson’s agent at next week’s Winter Meetings in San Diego. The Twins have also reportedly had varying interest in starters Brett Anderson and Jake Peavy.
Nothing seems imminent at this point, nor have the Twins been mentioned as the favorites to land any of the aforementioned free agents, but they are at least checking in on a number of options.
