Report: Kevin Cash to become Rays new manager

The Rays have reportedly selected Kevin Cash to become the club’s next skipper, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

The managerial race was down to two candidates, Cash and Royals’ bench coach Don Wakamatsu, after Raul Ibanez withdrew his name from consideration on Thursday.

Cash, who turns 37 years old on Saturday, had served as the Indians’ bullpen coach for the past two seasons. A Tampa native, Cash had previously spent time as an advanced scout for the Blue Jays after an eight-year playing career in the Majors from 2002-10.

Cash will become the youngest current manager in the Majors and the youngest overall since A.J. Hinch took over for the D-backs at the age of 35 during the 2009 season.
