Report: Atlanta interested in Grilli
The Braves are reportedly interested in bolstering their bullpen by signing free agent reliever Jason Grilli.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the club has informed Grilli of their interest. The 38-year-old righty was previously linked to the Yankees last month but those talks never resulted in a signing.
Grilli was ousted as the Pirates closer last season, then eventually traded to the Angels in June. He went 1-5 with 12 saves and a 4.00 ERA through 54 innings in 2014.
The Braves have been very active this offseason. They’ve already acquired Shelby Miller from the Cardinals in exchange for Jason Hayward and signed free agents Nick Markakis and Jim Johnson. The club is expected to remain aggressive this week as Winter Meetings are underway in San Diego.
