Report: Red Sox reach agreement with Masterson
The Red Sox appear to have filled out their starting rotation.
Boston has reached an agreement on a contract with free-agent right-hander Justin Masterson, tweets Buster Olney of ESPN. The deal is worth about $9 million, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Masterson was an All-Star in 2013 with the Indians, when he went 14-10 with a 3.45 ERA. The sinkerballer struggled last season, though, going 7-9 with a 5.88 ERA in 28 starts between the Indians and Cardinals. He was traded to St. Louis in July.
For Masterson, a return to Boston would be a homecoming of sorts. The 29-year-old was drafted and developed by the Red Sox and made his big league debut with the club in 2008.
The Sox dealt for right-hander Rick Porcello earlier Thursday, the final day of the Winter Meetings in San Diego.
