Blue Jays interested in Ichiro?

The Blue Jays are reportedly showing some interest in free-agent outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Suzuki, 41, has also been linked to the Marlins, who are looking for a fourth outfielder. The Orioles are looking for outfield help as well, and they have been said to have interest in Suzuki.

The Blue Jays have a glaring need in the outfield with Melky Cabrera gone to the White Sox via free agency and Colby Rasmus likely to sign with another club. Toronto has four outfielders on its 40-man roster in Jose Bautista, Kevin Pillar, Dalton Pompey and Michael Saunders.

Suzuki is 156 hits shy of 3,000 in his Major League career. The 10-time All-Star and former American League MVP Award winner might have to take a pay cut this year, though, after earning $6.5 million in each of the past two seasons with the Yankees.

If I’m Ichiro, I sign with the Blue Jays for the League minimum. He’s still a viable lead-off hitter and above average outfielder. In Toronto, with the lineup they can put behind him, he stacks up his HOF credentials and becomes the first Asian born player to ever receive the honor. Do it, guys, It’s good all the way around!!

He is actually exactly what the jays need he is an on base machine, can play all outfield positions and great in clubhouse. I would love to see the jays sign him as a 4th outfielder seems like a perfect fit.

I Think signing Ichiro would be a great move for the Jays but expecting him to play CF might be a bit of a reach.

Good thing Saunders can play all outfield positions as well.

This would be a great signing for the jays. If they could get him on the cheap he would be an excellent 4th outfielder. Insurance in case Pompey sucks it up (Saunders could play CF if need be). If he can still get on base he would be a nice piece, and add some good major league depth which is something the bluejays have lacked. Wonder if he can close.

Not only is this guy an above average fielder but he showed signs of still hitting the ball. Maybe with him at lead-off and Reyes at 2, plenty of RBI’s for Bats and Wing. Definetly go out and get this guy now and then sign that 2B…

Would it not be easier to make a list of players the blue jays are not “interested in”? Just an idea
