Report: Nick Punto to Arizona

The D-backs have agreed to a deal with free-agent infielder Nick Punto, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

It’s a Minor League deal with an invitation to Major League Spring Training, a baseball source told MLB.com.

Punto, 37, has played for five different teams over the last five seasons. He signed a two-year deal with the A’s following the 2013 season, but played just one year in Oakland. He hit .207 and was limited by injuries to 73 games in 2014 before being released in December.

A 14-year Major League veteran, Punto has played all over the diamond. He’s seen the most time at second base, shortstop and third base, and will add depth to Arizona’s infield. Punto, a switch-hitter, also has value in the National League as a pinch-hitter and defensive replacement late in games.

A very hard worker in the infield and I’m glad he achieved a ring with the Cardinals.
But his bat isn’t his big strength .
