Cardinals sign Lynn to three-year deal

The Cardinals and Lance Lynn have agreed to a three-year contract, the club announced on Thursday. The deal buys out the pitcher’s remaining arbitration-eligible seasons.

The contract is worth $22 million, according to Lynn’s deal does not include any options, making him a free agent after the 2017 season, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

“We are pleased to have reached this agreement with Lance,” Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said in a statement released by the club. “His performance has led to much success for both he and the Cardinals organization, and we look forward to his continued growth as both a pitcher and team leader.”

Lynn, 27, has gone 15-10 in each of the last two seasons with the Cardinals. He had a 2.74 ERA over 33 starts in 2014, down from a 3.97 ERA in ’13. The right-hander has also pitched over 200 innings in each of the last two years. He was eligible for salary arbitration for the first time this year.
