Cardinals sign Tony Cruz, avoid arbitration
The Cardinals and catcher Tony Cruz have agreed to a one-year contract for 2015, avoiding arbitration, reports Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com.
The deal is for $775,000, according to CBSSports.com. Cruz was eligible for salary arbitration for the first time in his career. He earned $521,000 last season, when he appeared in 50 games.
The Cardinals have two remaining players eligible for arbitration in outfielders Peter Bourjos and Jon Jay. The club has until Friday’s deadline to exchange binding salary figures with these players, after which, they can continue to negotiate contracts until the case is presented to an arbitration panel in February.
