Nationals, Scherzer agree to a deal

The Washington Nationals starting rotation just got an upgrade.

The Nationals and Scherzer have agreed to a seven year deal, MLB.com has confirmed.

Terms of the deal were not reported, but the 30-year old right hander is said to be seeking more than $200 million after going 18-5 with a 3.15 ERA in 33 starts last season.

However, FOX Sports has reported that the deal is in excess of $180 million.

Scherzer, the 2013 American League Cy Young Award winner, has been an All-Star each of the last two seasons and has started 30 or more games in six straight years.

To me its simple. Nationals get a great pitcher equal or better than Zimmerman and now get to trade Zimmerman for a bunch of prospects. If they signed Zimmerman to a huge contact all they would have is Zimmerman and no prospects.
