Braves ink Gomes to one-year deal

The Braves have reportedly signed free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes to a one-year contract.

The deal, which was first reported by Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, includes a vesting option for the 34-year-old veteran. MLB.com’s Mark Bowman confirmed the report.

The Braves have completely reworked their outfield this offseason. They’ve traded away Jason Hayward, Justin Upton and Evan Gattis and added Nick Markakis, Zoilo Almonte and now Gomes via free agency.

Bowman reported earlier this week that Gomes would likely split time in left field with Almonte.

Gomes has played in parts of 12 seasons with five different Major League clubs. He hit .241 with 19 homers through 687 plate appearances with the Red Sox and A’s over the last two years.
